After lots and lots of paperwork for making the festival possible, we have finally begun to work on UNARTE_FEST 2008, the Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival. UNARTE_FEST's aim is the promotion of creative artists worldwide working with the moving images.

The Festival will take place on-line from June to October 2008 and will be followed by a 3-days exhibition in Bucharest, Romania.

If you're inside the world of the video-art: independent artist, student, gallery owner, institution, curator, it would be a pleasure to be able to count on your participation in our program, whether as participant or audience.

The online film submission starts with 15th of June on www.unartfest.org and the deadline for receiving works is the 15th of September 2008.

All the works will be open for public view on our website throughout the whole festival period and, among all the works received, the Festival Jury will nominate a number of participants for Best Experimental Film Award, UNARTE_FEST 2008.

UNARTE_FEST is the first international exclusively experimental film festival in Romania. The experimental film is hardly ever present here in the cinema and mostly exhibited in contemporary art museums or galleries. Its esthetic is different than the ones of short and feature films, its style has nothing in common with that of the documentaries, it doesn?t have to be narrative or contain sound, and the image doesnt have to be recognizable.

The National University of Arts from Bucharest, Romania, intends to encourage the promotion of this type of film in Romania and not only, through the UNARTE_FEST International Experimental Film Festival.

Our goal is the support, the exchange and the dialogue between artists, professionals, students and the general public, worldwide. We envision that the UNARTE_FEST network will work as a platform and gateway for visual artists, encouraging them to develop their art and skills. Designed to showcase independent filmmakers, the competition is open to anyone, with no entry fee required.

There are no content specifications, there are no categories, the method of production is less important and the paramount aspect we praise is creativity. We act on how the artist has used whatever tools available to communicate their vision.

VOTING: Among all the works received, the Festival Jury will select to award a number of participants for Best Experimental Film, UNARTE_FEST 2008. 2010 UNARTE_FEST will also present the Viewers Choice Award during the awarding ceremony, this award being the result of the audience?s online voting. Entries will be posted on unartefest.ro and available for public viewing

EXHIBITION: There will be an awarding ceremony taking place in Bucharest, Romania, at the end of the judging period, followed by a 3-days projection of the winning videos and a selection of the best ones that entered the contest. The exact period and location will be announced on our website and through out. Unarte_fest is developed with the support of Administratia Fondului Cultural National.
